for Contrabass Clarinet and String Trio
Written in dedication to Simone Biles, the quartet weaves together a series of melodies and motifs formed from the titles of each of her eponymous skills. Biles has competed the most difficult routines ever performed in women's artistic gymnastics, requiring great power and drive, as evoked by the strong tones of the contrabass. Shifting harmonies mirror the risk of the sport, whilst acrobatic gestures in the accompanying strings add to the pace and intensity of the music.
Composed and recorded at the first Cumnock Tryst International Summer School.
for Unpitched Percussion Duet
In the north of Norway off the coast of the Lofoten islands there lies the Moskstraumen, a tidal whirlpool whose treacherous current has been said to swallow ships whole.
We Norwegians call it the Moskoestrom, from the island of Moskoe in the midway.
- Edgar Allan Poe
Performed by Zach Mitchell and Nathan Gatenby and recorded live in London at the Royal Academy of Music as part of the Voices: New Brass Works concert.
for Solo Carillon
Commissioned by the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America, Moonglades illustrates the subtle changes and shifts in moonlight across two nocturnal scenes.

A part of a shadow in which only some of the light is blocked is known as a penumbra. They are found in the outer part of sunspots and shaded areas cast by the earth or moon during an eclipse.
This piece is dedicated to the women of Iran in support of their continuing fight for freedom and equality.
Commissioned by Woon Ngee Ng for the Budleigh Salterton Music Festival.
for Solo Cor Anglais
Commissioned by the British Double Reed Society, Embers depicts the latter stages of a fire as it begins to reduce and die down. Tendrils of heat are present throughout the piece whilst gentle sparks and crackles emerge from beneath the dwindling flames.
Embers was premiered by Henry Clay on 18/9/22 at Leicester Art Gallery during Leicester International Music Festival.
Sheet Music available through June Emerson Wind Music.
for Solo Cello
Shadows takes inspiration from the vocal traditions of the Sami, namely the joik.
The title Shadows is a reference to the dappled light on the rocks and moss beneath the canopy of a Norwegian pine forest, which this piece depicts.
This piece was premiered by Yena Gook live on 6/11/22 during Unity 101 Radio's Chayer Adda.

Irrational is directly derived from the number pi (π) and explores the parallels between maths and music. There is great beauty in the structure of pi as an infinite decimal - every note in the quartet can be mathematically justified and closely represents a fragment of the number.
Recorded live in London at the Royal Academy of Music on the 8/2/22.
